NAUTA AIR 108
The “Narvalo” Project was very challenging for many reasons. From the very early moments it was clear that our Client was demanding for something that was different from the traditional “Cantiere delle Marche” concept.Immediately the attention came to the bulbous bow concept. In the past we had actually investigated the behavior of a hull with or without bulbous bow but I knew that you can get a much better result when you design a hull “around” the bulbous bow concept.
In this particular situation, the bulbous bow would have helped a lot also by increasing the buoyancy, which, with the draught limitation set at 2,3 meters, was also very important. With the Yard, we decided that we would have started anyway the central blocks of the hull while performing CFD and tank testing.
We designed a hull with an important volume in the bulbous bow and quite flat sections aft to be able to accommodate big propellers to keep in line with the efficiency requests from the Client. On delivery sea trials Narvalo performed very well. We knew we had kept something in the pocket and the Yacht performed very well, exceeding the Contract speed by more than half knot.
